Learning Lightning Component Development

The last couple of weeks I have been focused on trying to learn how to develop Lightning Components/Apps. I first attempted going through the Lightning Developer Guide last year after DF14 but had struggled to get through the first couple of chapters. After going through the modules and projects on Trailhead and attending an awesome Hands on Workshop at DF15, I decided to give the guide another shot. I was so excited when I was not only able to get past were I got stuck last time but also felt that I had a pretty good grip on what I was doing. Since it was a long road for me to get to this point, I thought it would be worth sharing the resources that have helped me along the way.

  1. Trailhead – Lightning Components Module, Quick Start: Lightning Components
  2. DF15 Hands On Workshop (Trailhead Project): Build an Account Geolocation App
  3. Codecademy: Javascript
  4. Salesforce Docs: Lightning Component’s Developer Guide
  5. Force.com Casts: Lightning Component Series

Initially, I thought I could just pick up javascript as I was learning Lightning but quickly realized that I needed to at least have basic knowledge which is where number three came in. I have also been using codewars to try and strengthen my javascript skills. Next, I am looking forward to working through Jeff Douglas’s tutorial on Lightning Components along with the many awesome examples found on Bob Buzzards Blog.

If you know of any resources that you have found helpful, please share them in the comments.
